These points of special interest arose at the Board Meeting of the Foundation Trust on 27th Jauary 2010:
1 CHIEF EXECUTIVES REPORT.
The three main points of the CEO's verbal report, all of which may/will have an impact on the Trust's activities and finances were :- The NHS is facing a very tough year in 2010/2011 and this will effectively result in 'flat lining' for the income of PCTs and NHS Trusts. This will present a considerable challenge to the Trust. The National Specialist Commissioning Group is carrying out a review of paediatric cardiac surgery configurations across the country and is due to 'report' in September 2010. This is likely to consider the RB&HF Trust along with all other Trusts that provide paediatric surgery even though the RB&HF does not receive commissions from the NSPG. The London Specialist Commissiong Group is also carrying out a review of paediatric cardiac surgery and is indicating that three centres in London (as at present) cannot be supported.
2 PERFORMANCE REPORT
CLINICAL MRSA - No cases in the first nine months of the year. This is four cases better than the target trajectory of four cases for the year to date. There has not been one case of hospital aquired MRSA at the Trust since October 2008. An excellent record.
C DIFF - Only five cases in the first nine months of the year against a target trajectory of twenty for the year to date. This is thirteen better than target.
FINANCIAL - The year to date, month nine, has produced a surplus of £3,557k which is a favourable variance of £1,058k.This was despite a challenging December. The Financial Stability Plan is showing a forecast end of year outurn of £14.6m against the original plan of £15.1m. Slightly below target but still very good.
3 OTHER BUSINESS
The Board has decided to reduce the number of Board Meetings per year from eleven to eight. The next meeting will be at Harefield on the 24th March 2010 at 10.30 am.
