Here are some highlights from the matters discussed.
Annual Report This gives a full account of the Trust’s work over the past 10 years, since it was formed, stressing the medical achievements. There is also an extensive section on the finances of the Trust. The full report will be published in time for the General Meeting to be held on 30th June.
Better Services for Local Children This is the report of a recent consultation by the Trust, NHS Brent and NHS Harrow. The main proposal is for the establishment of a Paediatric Assessment Unit (PAU) at both hospitals (Northwick Park and Central Middlesex) in the autumn. There will be special emphasis on minimising transport problems and appropriate facilities for patients with sickle cell problems (quite a problem in Brent apparently).
Infection Prevention and Control This annual report showed the progress on MRSA and C. Diff, both of which were well below the permitted numbers. There is now a division between hospital acquired infections and infection brought in by patients. Hospital acquired infections are very few.
The CQC 2009 In-Patient Survey This is a national survey. For the Trust the results are a great disappointment. For a large number of questions the Trust is in the bottom 20% of all trusts (as are many of the London hospitals). When one compares this with the Annual Report (see above) it is hard to believe that they refer to the same hospital! Some of the answers are very odd – for instance, many patients complained there was no choice of food whereas there are daily menus with choice, many complained about having to use mixed-sex accommodation which hardly exists at NWLH, and so on Very odd.
