 Choose and Book  After a period of problems with this system it is now in operation.

 Operating Theatre Utilisation  There are no national guidelines, although there had been a belief that Department of Health rules existed. In any case the trust is hoping to improve the performance of its theatres, mainly by reducing costs. It is known that the number of operations at ACAD, at CMH, is lower than elsewhere, mainly because most of these are short procedures, so that the consequential theatre cleaning between operations takes a larger fraction of time available.

 Surgery at NPH and CMH  The intention is to concentrate all emergency surgery at NPH, with more elective work to be done at CMH. For patients the advantage is that expertise of emergency work is concentrated on one site.
