A variety of interesting and important items came up at this meeting.
First, the decision to place one of the hyper-acute Stroke Units at Northwick Park. This will be in action by summer 2011 and will be the principal stroke unit for North West London.
Several interesting matters on performance. The A&E currently treating about 98.4% of patients treated within 4 hours (the national requirement is ‘at least 98%’. They are aiming to bring this up to 98.6, to provide a cushion for expected higher numbers in winter, so that the annual figures should still exceed 98%. The fire last February is still affecting numbers, as not everything is properly in place yet. Mixed sex accommodation in wards is a hot topic. At the Trust hospitals the current figure about 4%, against DoH advice that it should be no more than 10%. The figure actually refers to time spent in mixed sex accommodation, rather than numbers of patients involved.
News about MRSA and C. Diff Infections shows a welcome improvement. So far, there have been 5 cases of MRSA since April, most of these are patients who actually arrived at the hospital already with the infection. C.Diff figures are also well down on last year, well within the permitted numbers.
