The agenda was huge, abut 500 pages. The meeting itself took about 3 hours. The principal items of general interest are described briefly below.
1 Performance Report Most of the performance targets have been met, fairly comfortably. The exceptions are the ’62 day target’ for cancer referrals, which seems to be the result of a change of definition of waiting time, where waiting times no longer take account of delays requested by the patient (for instance because of holidays) and, secondly, the 2 week breast symptom target, where performance is in line with national averages but these are below target levels.
2 Finance Report There has been considerable ‘overperformance’ of SLA targets, which has led to overspending on budgets. The reasons for this are being investigated. The PCT is still expecting to break even on its overall performance for the financial year.
3 Swine Flu This was a lengthy set of papers, telling us about the plans and preparations for what should be done if the pandemic became really serious, with large numbers of patients. In particular, what should the PCT do if large numbers of its own staff were affected, how would healthcare be provided? All of this was presented in great detail in a sequence of versions of the planning documents. The number of cases is currently rising nationally but there were no figures about the incidence locally.
