Highlights of an interesting meeting.

Swine Flu  The number of tamiflu distribution points has been reduced for the time being. Vaccination of those most at risk is to start around end of September/beginning of October.

‘Baby P’  All areas of the country have been asked to check their arrangements for monitoring potential abuse.  Harrow seems to be in good shape as far as this is concerned.

Childhood immunisations  These are well below target. But it seems to be a matter of recording what happens, more than lack of action. Immunisations are done at schools, which give return without the information of a child’s home borough. As many children attend schools outside their home borough it is easy to see where the confusion arises. But there are also discrepancies between PCT records and those of GP practices.

Integrated Care Organisation Update  This concerns the progress of setting up services jointly with Ealing.  A year ago there were discussions involving Brent, Ealing, Harrow and Hillingdon regarding joint provision but Brent and Hillingdon decided to go their own ways. There has been a great deal of progress with Ealing. It is agreed that that this activity is only worthwhile if there are tangible benefits for patients in both boroughs. There is great determination on both sides to make it all work.  Good.
